1.1 Short biography of the artist1

Different film formats and film material compositions

Since the beginning of the film industry, formats and physical properties of film stock base have changed several times. A distinction between film types can be made according to different information. One of them is the width of the filmstrip. The most common widths used for films are summarised in the following table.

Zij stellen verschillende preserveringsuitdagingen vanwege de fysieke verslechtering van hun dragers en het in onbruik raken van de noodzakelijke afspeelapparatuur. Vandaag is digitalisering de meest voorkomende strategie om te verzekeren dat dit erfgoed ook in de toekomst toegankelijk zal blijven. Gedurende de ontwikkeling van de magnetische tapetechnologie zijn verschillende tapeformaten en opnamestandaarden geproduceerd met onder andere verschillende tapebreedtes, fysieke samenstelling, opnameprincipes en -duur.

Een project in twee fasen

Het omzetten van analoog naar digitaal geluid impliceert een drietal stappen. Er is eerst de bemonsteren van het signaal, vervolgens het kwantificeren van de monsters en tot slot het coderen in bits en bytes.

Opnamestandaarden

De inhoud van de videotapes die deel uitmaken van een audiovisuele collectie of archief kan geproduceerd zijn met behulp van verschillende opnamestandaarden. De technische informatie hierover zal belangrijk zijn om de videotapes af te spelen en te digitaliseren. Wereldwijd bestaan er grofweg drie verschillende opnamestandaarden voor video.

En tant que centre d'expertise pour le patrimoine numérique, PACKED vzw joue un rôle clé en Flandres pour réunir l'expertise sur la numérisation et l'archivage numérique afin de  transmettre aux organisations patrimoniales et culturelles. PACKED vzw est entre autres responsable du site web CEST (boîte à outils pour les standards du patrimoine culturel), la boîte à outils en ligne reconnue par le gouvernement flamand en tant qu'instrument de conseils pour créer et donner accès aux collections patrimoniales numériques par des organisations subventionnées par le Cultural Heritage Act.
